Although different types of electrical and electronic equipment vary in form, they often contain similar materials, such as ferrous and non-ferrous metals, glass, plastics, and circuit boards. These wastes are treated based on their specific categories to ensure that pollutants are removed from the recyclable content. The recovered recyclable materials can then be reintroduced and reused in production cycles.

The importance of recycling and recovering WEEE becomes evident during the treatment process, where we realize how many components and/or fractions can be recovered. Many electrical appliances, equipment, and devices contain valuable metals such as iron, copper, and aluminum (secondary raw materials). Recovering these valuable materials conserves the Earth’s natural resources, as this process typically consumes much less energy than producing metal from primary raw materials.
